Inside the Louvre

Not only is the building itself an architectural beauty, with all the art, sculpture and history inside a glass pyramid, you also have the Louvre Palace surrounding the Louvre. The building used to be a simple fortress in the medieval era but later transformed to become a Palace during the Renaissance. So much history to captive you before you even step foot inside of the Louvre itself!
Once inside the stunning Pyramid, one of Pei’s most famous structure, you enter what seems to be a different dimension. So many elevators taking you to different eras, and parts of the world, some more full with admirers than others. For example, the world renowned Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci. The Louvre is home to the only original painted by the hands of Da Vinci itself. It is a bit of a maze to find it but once you enter the room, you need to double check that it is in there because initially you only see a room filled with people but no artwork. Rest assured you were correct because we all know that is one of the Louvre’s biggest attraction and why it is world famous. To get to see the Mona Lisa in detail, you’ll have to squeeze through a hoarding of people taking photographs and selfies with the Queen of art. To admire and take your time, I would suggest going as soon as the Louvre opens it is doors at 9 am, and maybe when it is not summer because it gets humid!
Apart from the Mona Lisa, the Louvre is filled with beautiful creations by Michelangelo, Eugéne Delacroix and Auguste Rodin to name a few. It is safe to say that when you visit Paris, the Louvre is always a place you need to see! Seeing it once in your life is certainly not enough.

      Thanks for the question! In all honesty, seeing the Mona Lisa up close, well as close as I could get! The room was filled to the brim with people! When I visited the Louvre it was late August, so it was the summer holidays for families with children mainly, therefore I guess there were more people because more tourists visited Paris. Overall inside it wasn’t super crowded, the ticket queue wasn’t too long and many rooms were sparse, apart from where the Winged victory of Samothrace was located and obviously the Mona Lisa.

    If I can make a suggestion, I have been to Paris several times. I was last in Paris in April 2015. The Louvre was not that busy at that time. I will also suggest that you purchase Louvre tickets before you even get to Paris. The ticket lines can be very long. I did this on my last two visits to Paris and I completely by passed the ticket line and went straight in.

      Thanks for the suggestion! Yes you are right, you are able to purchase tickets beforehand also on their website I believe, unfortunately I couldn’t do this because I was on a European road trip and wasn’t 100% sure when I was going into the Louvre, I didn’t want my money wasted but I highly recommend on purchasing tickets beforehand anywhere you go if it’s possible. I did visit Palace Versaille a few days after I went to the Louvre and honesty the line to enter the Louvre was nothing compared to trying to enter the Palace. I think I had to queue for at least an hour and a half under the beating sun, the weather was super warm when I had to queue to enter the Palace in comparison to entering the Louvre, was much hassle free! I believe you can also buy tickets before entering the Palace and I highly recommend that as I believe it’s just as popular as the Louvre. I’ll do a post about Versaille very shortly!
